To support you and your education, BCIT is adapting applied learning in formats appropriate to the unfolding global situation. Spring and Summer PTS classes are being delivered in an online format unless you are notified otherwise.
This course will have students develop industrial rope access techniques to meet the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT) safe work practices and standards. Students must be able to demonstrate proper work-at-height safety practices and a pro-active approach to the management of work-at-height hazards. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certification certificate and card for SPRAT Level 1.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Apply the theory of mechanical advantage and the application in hauling and raising systems through practical experience with hauling systems and team exercises..
Explain the effects on angles and forces in rigging systems.
Apply safety factor calculations.
Can demonstrate the technical requirements to meet the Level 1 Industrial Rope Access Technician - SPRAT standard.
Perform a limited range of rope access tasks required by their employers, under the supervision of a certified SPRAT or IRATA –Industrial Rope Access Trade Association—Level 3 supervisor.
Perform inspections of their entire personal rope access equipment prior to use.
Conduct a basic rescue scenario, involving descent, under direct supervision from Level 3.
