Course Overview
The Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) course will build on principles that were introduced in the Programmable Relays and Analog Devices course. PLCs are most commonly encountered in fluid-driven and fuel cell Renewable Energy Systems. Topics covered include installation, interfacing, communications, monitoring, troubleshooting and testing, and safety. Students will make power, signal, and communication connections for the PLC, and interpret and write programs.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Install, connect, maintain and troubleshoot PLC’s in renewable energy systems.
- Create ladder logic programs for interaction between lab input and output devices.
- Set up Ethernet communication between a PLC and a PC locally and over the Internet.
