Course Details

This distance education course helps workers in the plumbing trade, who meet the Industry Training Authority requirements, prepare to challenge the Interprovincial Red Seal examination. It is primarily intended for migrating or immigrating trades people as well as apprentices who failed the exam on previous attempts. Information pertaining to the eligibility requirements for writing the Interprovincial exam must be obtained from the Industry Training Authority (ITA) at www.itabc.ca or 1-866-660-6011. This course is web based with curriculum material delivered using Desire2Learn learning management software. The program is instructor paced, with on line lectures delivered on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Students will require a National Plumbing Code 2010 Edition. This course is not designed as a replacement for the traditional apprenticeship model. It is intended for people who have vast experience in the plumbing trade and want to refresh their theoretical knowledge prior to challenging the Interprovincial Red Seal exam. Upon completion of the CQ Refresher you may be required to submit your BCIT transcript as proof that you have passed this course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • Be better prepared to write the Plumbing C of Q with Red Seal Endorsement examination and increase their opportunity of a successful result.
  • Define Plumbing occupational skills.
  • Apply piping preparation and assembly skills.
  • Design and size drainage, waste, vents and private sewage disposal systems.
  • Design and size water service and distribution.
  • Define and describe fixtures, appliances and water treatment systems.
  • Design and size hydronic heating and cooling systems.
  • Define and descibe specialized piping systems.
  • Maintain and repair piping systems and components.
