To support you and your education, BCIT is adapting applied learning in formats appropriate to the unfolding global situation. Spring and Summer PTS classes are being delivered in an online format unless you are notified otherwise.
Provides a review of the basic Physics 11 concepts which are important for success in most first-year physics courses required in BCIT technology programs. This course is NOT a substitute for PHYS 0309. Topics covered include vectors, kinematics, dynamics, equilibrium, circular motion, mechanical energy and power. There will be some lab exercises, and problem-solving skills will be emphasized. This course is recommended for students who took Physics 11 more than one year ago, who have not applied the concepts and need to review. IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE READ PRIOR TO REGISTERING: This course serves as a short two-week review of some grade 11 physics and is not recognized as a Grade 11 or 12 equivalent by any institution. This course in only offered in the summer term.
** IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ CAREFULLY AND READ IN FULL ** This course will commence with learning delivered in an ONLINE format. The delivery of this course does not require students to be physically on campus. A computer with access to the internet (Learning Hub) is required. The course instructor will communicate with students through BCIT’s Learning Hub therefore it is important that students sign on to the Learning Hub prior to the course start date to review any posted messages. Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents are exempt from payment of the TUITION portion ($220.72) of this course. If you are registering through the online system and are exempt from payment of the TUITION portion ($220.72), your account will be adjusted within 2 business days after registration. ANCILLARY fees such as the Student Association fee, the BCIT Student ID Card fee, etc. WILL BE CHARGED to ALL students and MUST BE PAID by ALL students. Students need to log into their my.bcit.ca account no later than 2 business days after registration to make payment for the ANCILLARY fees. THIS PAYMENT IS REQUIRED TO SECURE REGISTRATION IN THE COURSE. Non-payment of the ANCILLARY fees within the specified time period will result in the student being dropped from the course without prior notification therefore it is the STUDENT's responsibility to ensure that any fees owing are paid on time. Any student who withdraws from the course AFTER it has begun will not be permitted to re-register and re-join the online learning activity this pts 202020 term.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Use a consistent method for solving physics problems involving the basic concepts listed in the course outline.
Record and analyze laboratory data, using graphical techniques to display relationships.
Appreciate the importance of correct units and significant figures in quoting numerical results and recording data.
Effective as of Fall 2003
