Physics Part-time Studies Course

Course Details

Provides a review of the basic Physics 11 concepts which are important for success in most first-year physics courses required in BCIT technology programs. This course is NOT a substitute for PHYS 0309. Topics covered include vectors, kinematics, dynamics, equilibrium, circular motion, mechanical energy and power. There will be some lab exercises, and problem-solving skills will be emphasized. This course is recommended for students who took Physics 11 more than one year ago, who have not applied the concepts and need to review. IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE READ PRIOR TO REGISTERING: This course serves as a short two-week review of some grade 11 physics and is not recognized as a Grade 11 or 12 equivalent by any institution. This course in only offered in the summer term.

  1. ** IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ CAREFULLY AND READ IN FULL ** Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents are exempt from payment of the TUITION portion ($220.72) of this course. If you are registering through the online system and are exempt from payment of the TUITION portion ($220.72), your account will be adjusted within 2 business days after registration. ANCILLARY fees such as the Student Association fee, the BCIT Student ID Card fee, etc. WILL BE CHARGED to ALL students and MUST BE PAID by ALL students. Students need to log into their my.bcit.ca account no later than 2 business days after registration to make payment for the ANCILLARY fees. THIS PAYMENT IS REQUIRED TO SECURE A SEAT IN THE COURSE. Non-payment of the ANCILLARY fees within the specified time period will result in the student being dropped from the course without prior notification therefore it is the STUDENT's responsibility to ensure that any fees owing are paid on time. Students must be formally registered in the course to be able to attend classes. Any student who withdraws from the course AFTER it has begun will not be permitted to re-register and re-join the class this pts 202020 term. This course has limited seat capacity and seat availability is on a first-come first-serve basis. The Physics department DOES NOT maintain waitlists for any Physics pts courses after they fill to capacity. PHYS 0304 is offered once a year in the Summer and is not available as an online course at BCIT.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Use a consistent method for solving physics problems involving the basic concepts listed in the course outline.
  • Record and analyze laboratory data, using graphical techniques to display relationships.
  • Appreciate the importance of correct units and significant figures in quoting numerical results and recording data.
