Physics Part-time Studies Course

Course Details

Provides a review of the basic Physics 11 concepts which are important for success in most first-year physics courses required in BCIT technology programs. This course is NOT a substitute for PHYS 0309. Topics covered include vectors, kinematics, dynamics, equilibrium, circular motion, mechanical energy and power. There will be some lab exercises, and problem-solving skills will be emphasized. This course is recommended for students who took Physics 11 more than one year ago, who have not applied the concepts and need to review. IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE READ PRIOR TO REGISTERING: This course serves as a short two-week review of some grade 11 physics and is not recognized as a Grade 11 or 12 equivalent by any institution. This course in only offered in the summer term.

  1. ** IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ CAREFULLY AND READ IN FULL BEFORE REGISTERING ** All course content will be delivered remotely. Students are not required to be physically on campus at any time. A computer with access to the internet is required. The course instructor will communicate with students through BCIT’s Learning Hub therefore it is important that students sign on to the Learning Hub prior to the course start date to review any messages he may have posted. Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents are exempt from payment of the TUITION portion ($225.13) of this course. If you are registering through the online system and are exempt from payment of the TUITION portion ($225.13) your account will be adjusted within 2 business days after registration. ANCILLARY fees such as the Student Association fee, the BCIT Student ID Card fee, etc. WILL BE CHARGED to ALL students and MUST BE PAID by ALL students UPON REGISTRATION. Students need to log into their my.bcit.ca account upon registration to make payment for the ANCILLARY fees. THIS PAYMENT IS REQUIRED TO SECURE A SEAT IN THE COURSE. Non-payment of the ANCILLARY fees upon registration will result in the student being dropped from the course without prior notification therefore it is the STUDENT's responsibility to ensure that any fees owing are paid on time. Any student who withdraws from the course AFTER it has begun will not be permitted to re-register and re-join the learning activities this pts 202120 term.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Use a consistent method for solving physics problems involving the basic concepts listed in the course outline.
  • Record and analyze laboratory data, using graphical techniques to display relationships.
  • Appreciate the importance of correct units and significant figures in quoting numerical results and recording data.
