Course Details

Students will study basic anatomy and physiology of the human body and study the medical terminology involved with human anatomy and physiology. The building and defining of medical terms and use of medical abbreviations will be further developed from the foundation gained from Anatomy and Terminology 1. Students will continue to expand their knowledge of a variety of Body Systems that will include pathology, diagnostic testing and clinical procedures. Successful completion of this course will prepare the students for Medical Transcription.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Break down, understand and analyze a medical word
  • Use the pronunciation guides in the text to learn proper pronunciation
  • Identify terms relating to the body as a whole
  • Break down medical terms into component parts
  • Identify the basic prefixes and suffixes of medical language
  • Define terms that apply to the structural organization of the body
  • Name the organs of the blood, lymphatic, musculoskeletal, skin, sensory, endocrine systems
  • Define combining forms for organs and the meaning of related terminology using word parts
