Course Overview
This course will introduce students to materials used for millwork and custom furnishings, methods of joinery, hardware types, and different wood species and their characteristics. Students will prepare detailed working drawings for built-in cabinets, freestanding custom furniture and interior detailing. Emphasis will be on detailing millwork for residential interiors. Students will tour a joinery shop such as the BCIT Bench Work and Joinery Shop, when available, to familiarize themselves with the architectural millwork process.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Interpret residential millwork construction drawings.
- Identify the components of wood architectural elements such as doors and windows.
- Identify wood species, veneer cuts, plastic laminates, sheet goods and other materials used in millwork for interior details.
- Prepare specifications for materials, factory finishes and hardware.
- Recognize different joinery techniques and/or interior millwork details.
- Create accurate millwork construction drawings using manual drafting and AutoCAD techniques with appropriate line weights, notes and cross referencing.
