To support you and your education, BCIT is adapting applied learning in formats appropriate to the unfolding global situation. All PTS classes are being delivered in an online format unless you are notified otherwise.
Participants will be introduced to the primary elements of the start-up and management of a construction company. Start-up sections include strategic planning, business plan development and marketing. Construction management sections include strategic alignment, bidding, estimating, procurement, costing, changes to the contract and a communication workshop.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Select a business entity format.
Assess one's capabilities & resources in terms of start-up requirements.
Develop a Business Plan.
Identify and manage risk.
Identify sources of clients.
Establish clients through strategic alignment, partnering and marketing.
Understand the bidding, estimating and closing process.
Understand the change order process.
Recognize the responsibilities of the owner, consultants and contractor.
Improve communication and organizational skills for the fast-paced construction environment.
