BCIT is planning for a substantial return to on-campus activity for the fall 2021 term as informed by BC Public Health Officer guidelines. Refer to each course listing for details.

Course Details

Provides the essential skills to manage a diverse construction workforce. Factors influencing performance, personality, culture and organizational norms, as well as the practical application of modern management concepts and techniques will be discussed. Skills will be developed through lecture, casework, assignments and discussions.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Differentiate leadership from management in the construction industry.
  • Apply the 'Leadership Framework' to workplace situations.
  • Develop effective teams by applying the appropriate leadership style.
  • Employ a motivation-oriented approach with individuals and groups.
  • Communicate effectively with people who are of different personality types.
  • Effectively address conflict situations.
  • Contribute positively to organizational change.
