This course covers the basic concepts of managing the flow of materials and information in a supply chain from suppliers to customers. The relationships with the design, plan, execute, monitor, and control functions of a supply chain are studied and their application in the manufacturing, distribution, service, and retail industries are examined. Topics include: basic business concepts, variations in supply chain environments, demand management, identifying market and customer expectations, product design, process design, information system design, and inventory management. This comprehensive training course provides the student with the information and techniques to thoroughly understand the APICS body of knowledge for the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) exam. This course is the only single resource available that is designed specifically to help candidates pass the APICS CPIM exam part 1. The APIC learning system materials provided in this course include printed handouts, knowledge progress checks, practise quizzes, practise exams and case studies. In the first class students will be required to purchase the APIC learning system materials estimated at a cost of $590.00 CAD. Note that APICS has reconfigured the CPIM program and the original five exams will be replaced with the Part 1 and Part 2 exams. Read more at this link:

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify the topics covered in the APICS CPIM certification exam part 1.
  • Use the APICS CPIM online learning portal to comprehend the CPIM exam topics.
  • Describe the critical elements of a supply chain.
  • Explain the importance of business activities such as demand management, forecasting, order entry, and customer service.
  • Explain how inventory management and control can improve the performance of an organization.
  • Explain the importance of material requirements planning, capacity requirements planning, demand-pull replenishment, and just-in-time philosophy in the design and management of supply chains.
  • Demonstrate how cash flow management improves various supply chain management functions.
  • Describe the various links within the supply chain that are critical to achieving or exceeding the customer requirements.
