Course Overview
In this course, students learn how to write letters, memos, and routine e-mail messages. They learn to write clear and concise sentences and paragraphs. They learn how to avoid some common grammatical errors in their writing. They also learn to give oral presentations based on a variety of specific assigned topics. In addition, they learn how to prepare a resume and job application letter and fill out a job application form. Students also learn how to collaborate as part of a team to accomplish work related communication tasks. This course uses a "case study" approach. For each assignment, students will be presented with a work situation that requires them to produce a piece of writing, which may be a memo, a letter, or an email message. These assignments require students to focus on the practical needs that they need to meet by writing in the workplace.
