Course Overview
Grow your potential for employment in communications, public relations, and the news media. Explore how to write an engaging blog and develop the skills and confidence to work in any traditional or social media operation. You’ll get a lot of writing practice and become well-grounded in the principles of journalism and social media best practices. Skills learned dovetail with BCST 1158 - Interviewing for Broadcasting and Podcasting, which combined, offer the opportunity to vigorously strengthen your communication skill set.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Identify and explain diverse writing styles in traditional and social media.
- Define elements of effective media writing, by platform.
- Apply effective writing elements to all media writing formats.
- Create and maintain a blog.
- Construct a newscast, featuring news, information and sports content.
- Adapt social media content for broadcast and vice versa.
- Increase writing speed while maintaining effecting writing principles.
- Organize information in a logical fashion for presentation to a variety of audiences.
- Revise and edit written content.
- Determine if his or her abilities are suited to further education and paid work in the media.
