Course Overview
Peripheral milling (planing) and sawing (ripping and cross-cutting) are the primary topics in this course. In the first section, students will learn about moulders and matchers, as well as setup, operation, and problem correction. In the second section students will study saw technology and the requirements for straight, fast sawing with minimal fibre waste. The final section will focus on secondary wood processes like drilling, routering, and tenoning.

- WOOD 2140 and completion of all Tier 2 courses.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Identify and describe planers and planing technology.
- Identify planer defects, causes and remedies.
- Use appropriate saw terminology to facilitate teamwork with saw filers and machine maintainers.
- Analyse saw types, saw preparation technology, relationship of saw parameters.
- Calculate feed, speeds and saw performance parameters.
- Select appropriate machine alignment tools and strategies.
- Describe requirements for quality tenoning, drilling, and routering.
