Computer Systems Course

Course details

​This course focuses on developing and deploying wireless applications on personal mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Popular data applications involving text messaging, web-browsing and email will be developed. This is a lab-based course in which students gain hands-on experience of developing applications on mobile platforms such as Android. Please note that COMP 7031 is offered once a year in the fall term.

  • Acceptance into the Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems Degree program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Evaluate APIs and tools for GUI development, data storage and enterprise connectivity that are available on mobile platforms to implement basic functional requirements of mobile apps.
  • Identify issues associated with design of applications on mobile platforms such as smartphones that are CPU, memory and battery-power starved, and have a small area for User Interface
  • Apply design techniques specific to applications on mobile platforms.
  • Develop mobile applications that address the issue of small screen size of handheld devices.
