Course Overview

This course introduces the students to the basics of front-end web development. Students learn how to utilize HTML 5 and CSS 3 in order to create web templates. Topics include Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) 5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) 3, and an introduction to JavaScript. This course is the foundation for subsequent web-development courses.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Construct web documents, utilizing many of the HTML elements available.
Identify well-formed and valid HTML.
Develop web forms utilizing HTML5 form inputs and validation features.
Design web documents utilizing HTML5 semantic elements.
Generate HTML5 elements using JavaScript.
Analyze JavaScript variables and functions.
Differentiate between the different CSS 3 selectors.
Analyze cascading effects using CSS 3 and how they apply to layouts.
Differentiate between fixed, liquid, adaptive, and responsive layouts.
Understand how to import style sheets, fonts, and images into CSS 3 style sheets.
Analyze errors and messages in a current web browser debugging tool such as Firefox or Chrome.
Select appropriate markup that facilitates embedding external resources into a web document.
