Course Overview
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) through the International Convention on Standards of Training and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended in 1995 (STCW) provides in Chapter VIII, Part 3-1 of the non-mandatory "code B" guidance on keeping a navigational watch and suggests that shipping companies take initiative in implementing the Bridge Team Management (BTM) concept on their vessels. The course includes: Communication, Situational Awareness, Error Chain Analysis, Master/OOW - Pilot Relationship, Leadership, Teamwork, Preparedness, Stress Management, Passage Planning and Execution, Case-Study Analysis.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Apply effective communication skills.
- Prevent errors and accidents by using "error chain analysis".
- Recognize loss of situational awareness and apply appropriate corrective techniques.
- Enhance the working relationship of Bridge Team including interaction with the Pilot.
- Use effective Leadership, Bridge Organization, and Teamwork techniques.
- Prepare for emergency situations.
- Prepare and execute passage plans using the Visual Bridge Navigation Simulator.
- Apply the concepts, philosophy, and objectives of Bridge Team Management Training to their bridge environment.
