The vessel safety orientation course is a one-day safety orientation to small vessel regulations, safety procedures, hazard identification, lifesaving equipment use, and radio procedures in an emergency.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Describe Federal and Provincial Regulatory Governments and applicable Small Vessel Regulations.
- Identify common best work practices on small vessels.
- Describe the necessity for vessel orientations and emergency procedures for the vessel.
- Identify various hazards on small vessels.
- Identify unsafe conditions common to vessels.
- Identify lifesaving equipment used on small vessels (life raft, life jacket, immersion suit).
- Don a life jacket or PFD correctly.
- Use a portable VHF radio for communication and emergencies.
