Course Overview
This course teaches students how to use basic UNIX operating system commands. Students will learn fundamental command-line features of UNIX, including file system navigation, file and directory manipulation, file permissions, and the vi text editor.
Prerequisite(s)
- Familiarity with any operating system preferred MS-DOS.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Set up basic Unix file-system security.
- Manage files and file security on a Unix based system.
- Describe the contents of common Unix directories.
- Manage processes on a Unix based system.
- Set-up and manage Unix based (TCP/IP) networking.
- Program basic shell scripts in both bash and csh (or tesh).
- Manage a Unix based system from an X-windows environment.
