Course Overview
In this course, students will learn technical skills related to vacuum forming various thermoplastics for the fabrication of orthotic devices.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Use topic-specific equipment and materials properly and safely
- Apply an understanding of thermoplastics and other orthotic materials and vacuum forming in the creation of orthotic devices
- For a device described in a prescription/tech sheet, select and measure plastic for the given vacuum forming process
- Prepare a plaster cast for a vacuum forming (such as wicking, sealing pipe, dry cast, using string to create straight seams, etc.)
- Based on a provided prescription, execute the application of transfer paper to thermoplastic plastic prior to ankle-foot orthosis forming
- Demonstrate understanding of internal reinforcements and external posting for an orthotic device (such as where they are needed and how they are executed)
- Demonstrate understanding of different techniques for creating corrugated reinforcements and spacers within a thermoplastic orthotic device
- Demonstrate critical thinking and self-reflection towards the quality of the student projects
