Course Overview
This course provides a foundation in basic algebra, transcendental functions, and Boolean algebra. The concepts developed in this course prepares students for the Calculus course in term two. The concepts taught in this course are closely related to the concepts being developed concurrently in the Electrical Systems for Industrial Network Cybersecurity , Python Scripting for Industrial Network Cybersecurity , Introduction to Systems Administration for Industrial Network Cybersecurity , and Networking Fundamentals courses. Topics include: numbering systems; the conversion between numbering systems; Boolean algebra and techniques; Boolean expressions; approximate numbers; exponents and radicals; exponentials and logarithms; complex numbers; and solving systems of linear equations.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze and solve problems requiring: basic algebra, factoring and fractions, exponents and radicals, quadratic equations, and exponentials and logarithms.
- Solve problems involving approximate numbers and express the result with the appropriate number of significant digits.
- Solve problems involving systems of linear equations using substitution and matrices.
- Solve problems using the principle of superposition as it applies to linear equations with two or more stimuli.
- Solve problems involving complex numbers and phasors.
- Plot linear, exponential, and power relationships on ordinary and logarithmic graph paper.
