Course Overview
Renewable resource professionals spend time each day communicating orally and in writing with their supervisors, co-workers, industry partners, and the public. In industry you will need to communicate quickly, clearly, and effectively. This course teaches you to be a professional and efficient communicator at work, with a focus on technical and scientific writing and presentations. It includes writing technical descriptions, instructions, short reports, summaries, and workplace email. Preparing for job applications, resumes, cover letters, and interview skills help students be ready for hiring in the industry.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Define purpose and audience for a given communication task.
- Select and organize information to meet the needs of the audience.
- Make your writing accessible by using headings, lists, and white space.
- Use a style and tone appropriate for the purpose and audience.
- Demonstrate effective technical writing style.
- Summarize a scientific article and cite sources.
- Use language, grammar, and punctuation correctly, simply and effectively in a technical and scientific manner, as required by your workplace audiences.
- Write a variety of technical documents such as a summary, instructions, descriptions, informal reports, and email.
- Write an effective resume and cover letter.
- Demonstrate effective interview skills.
- Plan and deliver an informative oral presentation.
- Reflect on your presentation skills.
- Critically evaluate information to determine if it is accurate, relevant, complete, and to use critical thinking to develop strong arguments.
