Course Overview
The purpose of the course is to introduce students to strategic leadership and sustainability in order to gain a better understanding of sustainable concepts in social entrepreneurship. The course will provide an extensive listing of terms and definitions particularly useful to students and practitioners in the interdisciplinary field of sustainability. Through case studies, students will examine sustainability projects from around the world, which will illustrate the theory and practice of environmental, technological, and social aspects of sustainability. This course is designed to provide the student with a perspective on how to lead and implement sustainability in a socially entrepreneurial organization. Students will spend 50% of class time applying course concepts and designing a sustainability plan for their own organization.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Define sustainability and long-term maintenance of responsibility.
- Explain environmental, economic, technological and social aspects of sustainability in social entrepreneurship.
- Determine examples of strategic leadership, describing the importance of culture and values in an organization.
- Discuss the value of strategic leadership in determining the firm’s strategic direction.
- Demonstrate what strategic leaders can do to establish and emphasize ethical practices.
- Evaluate various organizational case studies, describing aspects of sustainability and recommending courses for action.
