Course Overview
This course teaches orderly abandonment of a vessel in an emergency situation; clearing the vessel; proper and effective use of equipment; and coordinating survival activities during rescue operation. The course is designed for certificated Officers and for certificated ratings. Such personnel are required to complete a comprehensive MED training program of which Survival Craft is one component.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe types of emergency situations.
- Describe actions to be taken during situations.
- Demonstrate use of survival equipment.
- Describe methods of helicopter rescue.
- Describe types of survival craft and rescue boats.
- Describe launching arrangements for survival craft.
- Describe/demonstrate the operation of the lifeboat engine and accessories.
- Explain evacuation procedures for survival craft.
- Describe signalling equipment and pyrotechnics.
- Describe actions to be taken when aboard a survival crafts.
- Conduct drills in launching and recovering of boats.
- Explain launching and handling of survival craft in rough weather.
- Explain the use of radio equipment.
- Carry out the duties of a survival craft crew member/PIC.
