- International Fees
International fees are typically 3.25 times the domestic tuition. Exact cost will be calculated upon completion of registration.
Course Overview
This course follows from SURV 1185. It will be a field-based course applying the various concepts covered in the previous course. It will consist of numerous field labs involving the determination of elevations using leveling methods as covered by SURV 1185. These may include: instrument setups; transfer of elevations; differential level loops and their associated misclosure adjustments; and peg tests. Total stations will be used for traversing; layout of points; and the determination of cut & fills and volumes. This course is usually held at BCIT in August. Labs are generally held outside regardless of weather conditions, so weather appropriate clothing is recommended (i.e. warm clothing and rain gear).

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Determine the elevations of specific points using differential leveling and compute adjustments of leveling circuits.
- Perform the field test to evaluate the condition of a surveyor's level.
- Use a total station to measure horizontal and vertical angles and measure distance between specific points.
- Perform traverse observations and complete associated computations and adjustments.
- Perform cross sectioning.
- Perform calculations involving volumes and areas.
- Use total station functions including area measurement and remote elevations.
- Explain the basics of GPS and operate a handheld receiver.
- Keep proper notes for survey fieldwork.
