Course Overview
Covers horizontal angle and bearing measurement and calculation; survey computations on a simple plane; computations and adjustments of traverses; trigonometric levelling; horizontal curves; road and building layout; areas of cross-sections and plans, volume calculations; introduction to the total station; detail survey and elevation layout.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Use a total station to perform basic angle and distance measurements. [1, 5]
- Perform coordinate calculations from bearing and distance data. [1]
- Perform traverse observations and complete associated computations and adjustments. [1]
- Perform cross sectioning and elevation layout. [1]
- Perform calculations involving volumes and areas. [1]
- Perform calculations and observations for circular curve layout. [1]
- Produce Industry standard field notes for survey field work. [1]
- Conduct basic survey operations in a safety conscious manner. [8]
