- International Fees
International fees are typically 3.25 times the domestic tuition. Exact cost will be calculated upon completion of registration.
Course Overview
This is an introductory level course in statistics. Topics include descriptive statistics (including measures of central tendency and variation, and appropriate graphical displays of data); probability distributions; inferences from one or two samples (hypothesis testing and confidence intervals); linear correlation and regression. Additional topics may include chi-squared tests for independence and homogeneity. These methods will be applied to examples from the natural resource field.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Differentiate between observational studies and experiments.
- Categorize variables based on the type of data they represent.
- Use statistical processes to summarize, analyze, and interpret statistical data from the natural environment.
- Compute and understand measures of central tendency, variation, and position; identify outliers in a sample.
- Prepare and interpret an appropriate graph to display sample data.
- Apply discrete and continuous probability distributions, including the binomial and normal distributions; analyze sampling distributions using the central limit theorem.
- Estimate population parameters using confidence intervals for the mean and proportion.
- Formulate and test hypotheses for the mean, proportion, difference in two means, and difference in proportions.
- Conduct linear regression, and test for a significant relationship between two numerical variables.
Effective as of Fall 2025
