Course Overview
DSON 5010 prepares the student for entry into the clinical environment. This course is a combined theory and lab course. In the theory section, students will learn congenital heart disease, special diagnostic medical imaging techniques, and the student's roles and responsibilities in clinical. In the lab component of the course, emphasis will be on patient care, communication, and completing full echo examinations.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate how to effectively communicate with patients, support persons, and other health care professionals. (1.1i,j, 2.3e)
- Adhere to relevant regulations, code of ethics, and organizational policies. (2.1a,b,c)
- Practice within limits of personal knowledge and skill, and ask for guidance where appropriate. (2.2d,e, 2.3i, 3.1c)
- Assess medical history and provide continuous care throughout the exam. (2.3b, 5.1b, 3.1j)
- Produce accurate and diagnostic images representative of findings and accurately report findings. (5.3l, 5.4a, 5.4b, 5.4e, 5.5g, 5.3j)
- Modify examination based on sonographic evidence, clinical information, resource implications, and other contextual factors. (5.3k)
