Course Overview
This online course introduces the student to the fundamentals of specialized and interventional procedures in medical imaging focusing on technical aspects and patient care. Students will focus on the anatomical and radiographic presentation for specific procedures, these being angiography, angioplasty, embolizations, stent insertions and ablations. Students will also study specific biliary, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal interventions. Students will become familiar with a variety of tubes and lines encountered in radiography, as well as the inner workings of the OR environment from a technologist perspective. The curriculum identifies commonly used interventional instruments, including a variety of catheters, dilators and wires. This course will introduce routine examinations for mammography and other studies of the female reproductive system. The curricula will be illustrated and delivered through online learning modules, online demonstrations, audiovisual aids, and a student assignment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Perform patient history to support physician?s request and confirm adherence to exam preparation requirements.
- Plan and adapt the examination based on patient?s condition and clinical environment.
- Provide post procedure care information.
- Provide patient care prior, during, and post examination.
- Describe the imaging examination to the patient.
- Describe course of action for confirmed pregnant patients.
- Describe positioning and equipment required for specialized studies and adapt for atypical patients.
- Utilize anatomical landmarks and relational anatomy to position the patient for specialized studies.
- Evaluate radiographic images for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability and apply corrective measures as required.
- Recognize conditions requiring urgent action and respond.
- Evaluate results to determine if further images are required.
- Describe indications and contraindications for specialized / interventional procedures.
- Recognize normal, variant and abnormal results for specialized procedures.
- Describe pharmaceuticals commonly prescribed during special procedures.
