Course Overview
Students develop a communication plan for an issue in fish, wildlife, or recreation. They write news releases, brochures, and materials for interpretive educational programs. Students write a proposal to a funding agency for a FWR public relations initiative, participate in an interview with a media reporter, and practice oral skills with school-age children. Students design and construct visual displays and give community briefings on controversial issues in FWR.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop a communication plan for publicizing a point of view on a fish, wildlife & recreation issue.
- Design, write, and produce a poster on research findings.
- Design, write, illustrate and produce a 2-3 minute podcast on a Fish, Wildlife or Recreation topic--a Joint Assignment with Recreation.
- Design, illustrate and produce a visual display or web materials (joint assignment with Recreation course).
- Write a funding proposal on behalf of a non-profit group or consulting company.
- Develop and deliver a 30-45 minute interpretive program for a community group on a fish, wildlife or recreation topic.
- Handle questions from the media and write a press release on a controversial FWR topic.
- Prepare visuals using current software for the year-long project client presentation.
- Critically evaluate information to determine if it is accurate, relevant, and complete, and to use critical thinking to develop strong arguments.
