Course Overview
This seminar is designed for technical managers, engineers, applied scientists and technologists in organizations with proprietary technology who are interested in creating, managing and exploiting IP. Participants will learn the importance and value of IP, how it can be protected and leveraged to provide value to the organization. There will be hands-on exercises to teach the participant how to navigate a patent document, how to conduct an IP audit and how to write a commercialization plan for exploiting IP assets.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the importance and value of Intellectual Property.
- Be able to navigate a patent document.
- Be able to establish a process for capturing IP in a technology-based organization.
- Be able to audit products or services to identify elements protectable as IP assets (patents, trademarks, designs, copyright and trade secrets).
- Be able to write a commercialization plan for exploiting IP assets.
