This two day workshop provides a comprehensive overview of project management techniques to effectively plan, manage, and control projects based on the standards of the Project Management Institute. Theory and practical examples of these methodologies are provided in an interactive format. Skills covered are immediately applicable to the job. Mastering basic project management skills, methodologies, and tools enable the participant to prioritize projects and workload, create realistic goals and recruit and manage high performing teams. Participants create a project work breakdown structure and are shown how to establish reliable project budgets and schedules, implement project tracking techniques, and create effective strategies to control the project budget, schedule, and quality. Both the technical and soft skill sides of project management are covered. 15 PDU credits from PMI are earned.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the Project Management Institute (PMI)® framework, definitions, practices, life-cycles, phases, terminology, project management process groups and knowledge areas.
- Identify the skills needed by project managers to successfully manage projects.
- Apply techniques for creating, managing and developing project teams.
- Identify available resources and software to help with project management and delivery.
- Explain the difference between projects and operations (and how they intersect).
- Describe the factors for project success and failure.
- Develop the project charter that includes the projects goals, summary level cost and scheduling information, assumptions, risks, constraints and roles & responsibilities.
- Create a statement of work, project requirements, scope of work and work breakdown structure (WBS).
- Apply project scheduling techniques including program evaluation and review technique (PERT), critical path method (CPM) and Gantt chart to create a comprehensive project schedule.
- Define the resources requirements needed to deliver the project work packages and activities.
- Apply project budgeting techniques for determining project costs and for life cycle costing by using analogous, parametric, bottom-up, ratio, and statistical estimating methods.
- Create a risk register to identify, manage, and control project risks.
- Manage project communications by identifying project stakeholders and creating a communication matrix.
- Apply project monitoring & control techniques to track the budget and schedule using methods for measuring actual vs planned performance and earned value technique.
- Develop a change management process for managing budget and schedule changes by analyzing impacts, considering project trade-offs and updating the project documents.
- Close out projects by completing commitments, measuring performance and conducting lessons learned.
