Course Overview
Provides the mathematical knowledge required to move into the more advanced business math courses, especially Calculus for Management. Topics include linear and quadratic equations and inequalities, polynomials, rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, sequences and series. Applications to economics and finance are used.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Perform the order of operations (BEDMAS).
- Do calculations involving fractions, inequalities and negative numbers.
- Graph linear equations.
- Solve systems of equations.
- Perform supply/demand analysis.
- Solve quadratic equations using the formula or factoring.
- Graph quadratic functions.
- Solve quadratic inequalities.
- Determine equilibrium price and quantity given a pair of quadratic demand and supply functions.
- Perform Revenue/Cost/profit analysis such as graphing the functions, maximizing the total revenue or profit or finding the break-even level of output.
- Graph exponential and logarithmic functions.
- Use the exponential function to model growth.
- Use logarithms to solve equations or find unknown parameters in simple models.
- Calculate percent changes, inflation, and compound interest.
- Sum up geometric series, calculate net present values, internal rates of return and compare investment projects.

This is a predominantly online course, with labs live via MS Teams on Wednesday evenings. There will be a midterm exam on November 5th and a final exam on December 10th. Both will be held in-person at the Burnaby campus.
