Course Overview
A 150-hour clinical practicum in a perioperative environment that provides the opportunity to develop beginning competency in the scrub nurse role and gain further insight into the concept of caring. Accomplishes this through exploring individuals' intraoperative experiences and providing care during surgical interventions.

Learning Outcomes
Using the processes of critical thinking, systematic inquiry, collaboration, and communication, the learner will have the opportunity to:
- Develop and utilize critical thinking in order to reflect on own practice and learning within the scrub role and gain insight into the meaning of the perioperative experience for individuals, their families and the perioperative team.
- Use a variety of sources of data about the individual and the environment to develop and utilize comprehensive assessment skills toward clinical decision making.
- Demonstrate a spirit of inquiry and use a variety of sources of data to pose and answer nursing practice questions.
- Utilize collaborative interpersonal communication skills with individuals, colleagues, instructors and members of the perioperative team to establish shared meaning, goals and partnership.
- Integrate and apply knowledge of concepts, principles, theories and frameworks to understand health challenges related to common, less complex surgeries and anesthesia and provide care within the scrub role.
