Course Overview
This course focuses on the perinatal nurse, healthy childbearing experiences, and common antenatal conditions. Within the context of building partnerships, this course exposes learners to a holistic way of caring for childbearing women, their fetuses/newborns and families. NSPN 7110 has been modified from NSPN 7100 and includes content from NSPN 7200 (two modules). Program Head approval is required to register in this course. Students will only receive credit for either NSPN 7100 or NSPN 7110 towards a credential.

- Relate the knowledge of pregnancy, childbirth and parenting from a "wellness" perspective to the practice of perinatal nursing.
- Relate the concept of woman-centered care when developing nursing care for newborns and families.
- Integrate theory related to growth and development, transition, vulnerability and coping as it relates to childbearing experiences.
- Analyze how the physical, social, political, spiritual, and economic environments influence the health of childbearing experiences.
- Understand the importance of establishing partnerships with childbearing women and their families.
