Course Overview
A three-week clinical course focusing on the care of criticallyill children, this course is centered around learning activities which are flexible and enable students to obtain a tailored clinical experience. Through these learning activities, students are provided with opportunities to build on the communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and systematic inquiry skills necessary to provide care for criticallyill children. In particular, clinical decision making in pediatric critical care nursing is emphasized.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Use therapeutic communication, collaboration and partnership skills in the development and maintenance of nurse-child and nurse-family member relationships.
- Manage the care of critically ill children through the use of systematic inquiry and reflection on own practice.
- Use a clinical decision-making framework in the implementation of nursing care for critically ill children.
- Plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of critically ill children which reflects consideration of available resources, principles of growth and development, knowledge of normal and pathologic physiology, family-centered care and standards of practice.
