Course Overview
This course will provide students with an introduction to various data types, and to the software used by law enforcement agencies to create, manage, manipulate and query data. Students will learn methods for searching, retrieving, mining and manipulating data from public safety Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and police Record Management System (RMS) repositories. In particular, the Police Records Information Management Environment (PRIME-BC) will be examined.
Prerequisite(s)
- Students should be proficient with Windows XP and possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify and utilize tools and procedures to create analytic product.
- Manage and manipulate operational data for use in a law enforcement setting.
- Apply Structured Query Language (SQL) statements to query, create and analyze data.
- Formulate and manipulate concepts to perform sophisticated data mining of operational information.
- Adapt Microsoft Access, Excel and various other applications to carry out data translations, mapping and cleaning functions.
