Course Overview
This course introduces students to the production of a local television newscast. With limited supervision, television students will work in conjunction with Broadcast and Online Journalism program students to produce, shoot, and edit local news stories as well as produce a live recorded newscast and an on-air graphics package. Under direct and constant supervision, students will engage in activities that simulate a real-world newscast within a local television station.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Use electronic news-gathering cameras to shoot news stories (with limited supervision).
- Use non-linear editing systems to edit news stories (with limited supervision).
- Demonstrate the relationships among the various roles involved in producing a local television newscast, through participation in a production crew (with direct supervision).
- Prepare (under direct supervision) the technical facilities of a television studio to produce a local television newscast.
- Coordinate (under direct supervision) television field production equipment to ensure equipment availability for production operations.
- Perform (under direct supervision) several entry-level crew positions required to produce a local television newscast.
- Develop (with limited supervision) graphical elements that provide a unique on-air look for a local newscast.
- Follow code-of-conduct guidelines to work effectively in a team environment with other students to produce a local newscast.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills in working as a team member with other students to produce a local newscast.
