Provides basic training in neuromuscular disease processes, nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course:
- The student will learn the basic knowledge of normal nerve and muscle anatomy and function as well as disease states encountered in an electrodiagnostic laboratory.
- The student will learn to apply electrodes to standard predetermined positions on a patient, as well as record responses from the nerves and muscles with surface recording and stimulating electrodes.
- The student will be capable of recognizing physiological and non-physiological artefacts and will be capable of taking the appropriate steps to eliminate them.
- The student will be able to recognize normal and abnormal clinical presentations seen in an electrodiagnostic laboratory.
- Demonstrates knowledge and sensitivity to patient and enviormental issues when performing any test in an institutional or clinical setting which includes:
- Patient safety and confidentiality
- Professional conduct
- Explanation of tests in a clear and friendly manner
- Washes hands before and after handling patient
- Appropriately discards hazardous materials
