Course Overview
This course examines the planning involved in meetings and conferences. Topics include: program and speaker development; site and transportation selection; supplier negotiations; hospitality and delegate comfort, pre and post activities. The course emphasizes market identification and effective promotion of the program, incentive travel, and trade-consumer shows, exhibitors and attendees. Market promotions and database identification are assessed.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop effective public speaking skills by delivering oral presentations (individual and team) to audiences of diverse sizes.
- Use current, practical and technical terminology in reference to this sector.
- Summarize the scope of the sector identifying the types of meetings, and the components of planning and marketing that make for a successful event.
- Describe the role, services, functions, and benefits of working with a CVB in promoting the meetings industry as well as tourism in general.
- Explain the difference between incentive travel and traditional forms of business, vacation and group travel.
- Identify and describe basic venue requirements, food & beverage needs, a/v, transportation and logistical arrangements for meeting events.
- Assess the various web-based tools that can be used by today's meeting professional.
- Describe the role and functions of the various players in the meeting industry.
- Describe current trends in the meeting industry.
- Demonstrate interview and job finding skills
