Course Overview
Presents a study of mechanical transmissions using belts, chains and gear reducers in drive configurations, along with associated components and ancillary systems from an application, specification, selection, maintenance and safety point of view.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Analyze and calculate force, work, torque and power requirements.
- Analyze, describe and select chain drives.
- Analyze, describe and select belt drives.
- Analyze, describe and select gear reducers.
- Describe and select various coupling types (rigid, flexible, traction).
- Describe various brakes, clutches and ancilliary devices.
- Describe various lubricants and lubricating systems
- Describe and select plain and anti-friction bearings.
- Describe various mechanical seals.
