Course Overview
This course encourages students to produce creative, detailed lighting design solutions for spaces which may include residential, commercial, institutional, or hospitality. Emphasis will be on concepts for lighting, practical applications, specifications and means to manipulate the human perception of space with light. Students will create reflected ceiling plans that incorporate lighting and ceiling details. Photometry will be examined and applied to interior spaces for evaluation, discussion and implementation.

- 65% or better in Level 3 F/T INTD courses and COMM 2320.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Construct lighting layouts and specifications applicable to a design project.
- Implement effective lighting concepts in accordance with the functions and concept of a space.
- Evaluate the lighting requirements of various interior spaces, from functional and aesthetic perspectives.
- Determine beam spreads and lighting appropriate for specific functions.
- Develop lighting concepts through the visible characteristics of lighting: ambient illumination, visual discrimination, illumination hierarchy, and luminous elements; into a total design concept for a specific situation.
- Apply photometric principles when designing lighting layouts.
- Produce a reflected ceiling plan as part of a set of construction drawings.
