Course Overview
This course is designed to familiarize students with developing, designing, marketing and managing successful tour packages. The leisure travel industry will be examined from the perspective of companies working with domestic and international tour operators including destinations, hotels, activity operators and transportation companies. A major group project will develop a guided multiple day tour package for a domestic/international market. Niche segments will also be analyzed included LGBTQ+ tourism, accessible tourism and sport tourism. This course will also explore the role of travel media relations and how it aids in building awareness and encourages leisure travel.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop effective public speaking skills by delivering oral presentations (individual and team) to audiences of diverse sizes.
- Design and develop a comprehensive tour package.
- Develop promotional plan that efficiently sells tour packages.
- Explain the unique demographic and psychographic characteristics of escorted tour travellers as well as the unique needs and wants of niche segments.
- Describe the different roles tour operators, tour wholesalers, receptive operators, inbound operators, DMO's, suppliers, OTAs and travel agencies play in the leisure travel industry.
- Explain how to utilize DMO's marketing and media relations services to create and market tour products.
- Analyze pricing considerations for a package and calculate the cost per person to charge for an escorted tour.
- Develop and design an operational itinerary and understand the details involved in executing an escorted group tour product.
