Course Overview
This course explores the legal and financial issues surrounding brownfield redevelopment projects. Case study examples and course resources focus on liability and risk assessment in addition to funding sources, and financing options, working with lenders and current incentives for redevelopment. (This is one course in a series of 5 brownfield redevelopment courses under joint development and instruction by BCIT and UBC.)

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful compleltion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the liability, transfer/risk involved in brownfield redevelopment for buyers, sellers, developers, local governments and financial institutions.
- Describe the legal framework involved in a brownfield redevelopment project.
- Prepare a business case/pro forma for a brownfield redevelopment project.
- Understanding the context of working with a financial institution in order to create successful and ongoing relationships.
- Give examples of funding sources and structures and other incentives for brownfield redevelopment projects.
- Address unpermitted requirements, requested by local government and the province.
