Course details
This is a 15 week course that takes the Lean Concepts covered in OPMT 1710 – Lean Concepts for Business and focuses on their effective application. The course completes the Lean body of knowledge and prepares the student to write the ASQ/AME/Shingo Institute/SME Lean Bronze Certification Exam. Lean is not just about the tools. To successfully implement lean there needs to be Respect for People. A Lean Environment is a Team Environment. In addition to learning more about the application of the Lean Tools, the student will learn leadership skills that will help engage the people and optimize the implementation of lean in their organization.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion the student will be able to:
- Identify key metrics in their organization and understand how they can drive behavior.
- Cascade metrics down through the organization aligning them with the organization’s strategy.
- Explain the 8 pillars of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and how it varies from TQM.
- Discuss the difference between Traditional vs Lean Management, the traits of a good leader and vital leadership skills.
- Apply Lean Thinking and Lean Tools to identify and eliminate environmental wastes within their organization.
- Lead a Kaizen event within their organization.
- Apply visual management tools and conduct a "Gemba" walk.
- Develop and implement Leader Standard Work.
- Describe the Hoshin Kanri process and explain how it differs from traditional strategic planning processes.
- Assess processes using Error Proofing (Poka-yoke) to prevent incorrect operation by the user.
- Understand the Toyota Lean Product Design System, its ground rules and basic tools.
- Carry out Coaching for Continuous Improvement. The Coaching role and the Coaching Continuum.
- Develop as a Lean Leader. The power of "you". Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Employee Engagement
- Define Autonomation (Jidoka).
