Course Overview
Provides both a strategic and operational view of leading technological change in healthcare organizations. A theoretical overview of organizational change provides the groundwork for understanding the process of change, human reaction to change, and the effects of change on the organization. Explores the importance and process for understanding the need and impetus behind change. Discusses models for managing change and provides a learning experience in creating a vision of change, and assessing the impact of change of the organization. Examines leadership competencies for change sponsors, leaders, and other change agents in the context of successful change. Provides a concrete and pragmatic approach to managing change that will assist participants in avoiding common pitfalls and problems evident in many change initiatives today.

Learning Outcomes
This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge to understand and the skills to manage technological change within the health care environment. The participant will develop leadership competence in planning, designing and implementing technological change.
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Define organizational change and transitions.
- Analyze the health care environment for drivers of change.
- Understand and explain the human response to change.
- Understand resistance to change and identify ways to help individuals move forward.
- Describe the phases of a change process
- Outline critical success factors for change.
- Identify skills and competencies required for change leaders and change agents.
- Identify the roles critical to the change process.
- Develop a change vision.
- Assess the impact of a change initiative on the health care organization.
- Analyze a change initiative and determine corrective action.
- Establish a transition team structure.
- Debate ethical issues related to change.
- Examine the health care organizational culture.
- Assess leadership characteristics in relation to change.
