Course Overview
In this course students will learn to use and maintain basic hand tools according to safety requirements. Students will select, use and properly maintain layout and measuring tools and gauges. Students will learn to identify fasteners and their application. Both metric and imperial measurement systems will be used.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Use basic hand tools for specific purposes according to safety practices.
- Use layout tools to accurately scribe materials for later precision machining operations.
- Cut internal and external threads.
- Measure internal and external diameters as well as depth, slots, grooves.
- Measure angular surfaces and tapers.
- Use profile gauges to measure radii.
- Check surface finishes to the required specifications.
- Use a comparison measurement device to measure components.
- Identify different types of fasteners.
