Course Overview
The purpose of this course is to teach students how to effectively manage information technology projects. It covers all nine project management areas – project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, communication, risk, and procurement management – and all five process groups – initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing from the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK). Microsoft Project will be used in the labs to reinforce the lecture materials.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successsful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Define a project.
- Recognize the skills necessary to be a good project manager.
- Identify the factors influencing project scope.
- Use GANTT charts to manage time spent on a project.
- Develop project cost estimates at various stages in the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Understand the issues related to project quality and quality management.
- Identify issues related to human resource management.
- Use a number of techniques to help motivate project participants.
- Communicate the status of a project throughout an organization.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with a project.
- Describe the purpose of a project post-mortem and review session.
- Use Microsoft Project to track the scope, time, cost, resources, and communications associated with a project.
