Course Overview
This introductory course is intended to develop the student’s statistical and analytic skills. The course will focus on and structure of crime analysis inquiry, statistical data analysis, results reporting and interpretation. Emphasis will be placed on basic data gathering and basic descriptive statistical techniques. Students will be introduced to introductory statistical analysis techniques using SPSS for application in the law enforcement field and secondary.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain the strengths and limitations of applied crime research and analysis
- Examine the significance of conceptualization and measurement in crime research and analysis
- Apply all the introductory statistical applications to primary and secondary data sets
- Articulate statistical findings in the law enforcement context
- Apply basic statistical crime research methods and data analysis techniques using SPSS
