Course Overview
This course introduces the field of food science and technology. The BC food industry is described; nutritive and regulatory aspects of food are discussed; and students will be introduced to basic laboratory techniques and laboratory report writing. Time management and critical thinking practices that can be used throughout the rest of the Food Technology program are also introduced.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the BC food processing industry.
- Discuss nutritive aspects of food constituents.
- Locate and interpret appropriate regulations for a given scenario.
- Demonstrate basic laboratory techniques and generate laboratory report.
- Use simple time management methods.
- Discuss methods for developing critical thinking skills.
