Course Overview
This course provides a general overview of the engineering profession with emphasis on the civil engineering discipline and the role of the civil engineering team. Additional introductory lecture topics are: sustainable development, environmental and societal impact, the project development process, standards and codes, engineering ethics and general and workplace health and safety.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss the roles and responsibilities of engineering team members and their employers. [8, 9, 10]
- Identify and describe the various stages of the project development process. [11]
- Describe the relationship between civil engineering and sustainable development. [9]
- Describe the ethical practice of civil engineering. [10]
- Describe the role of codes and standards in the practise of Civil Engineering. [8]
- Explain the applicable BC health and safety legislation. [8]
