Course Overview
This introductory course focuses on the airport as an essential part of the air transport system in Canada, the United States and internationally. The course describes the various airport departments, examines the operational requirements and covers the operational and management services of both large and small airports.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Explain the history of airports.
- Explain differences and implications between the various types of airport ownerships and operations.
- Explain the size and scope of the airport system and classification of airports in the U.S. and Canada.
- Describe the various forms of land/water transportation to and from an airport for both passenger and cargo.
- Explain the function of an airport.
- Describe the aeronautical facilities of a typical airport.
- Describe the aeronautical rules and use of an airport.
- Explain the economic role and economic impact of an airport in a nation/region/community.
- Describe the various kinds of businesses that would likely benefit from being in and around an airport.
- Describe the various roles an airport plays in a community.
- Explain the developments and/or issues facing airports in the next several decades.
